Background

In February 2023, the Barrington School Building Committee resubmitted Stage I of its Necessity of School Construction application to the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE). This Stage I submission is part of the multi-stage process all Rhode Island school districts must follow for school facilities construction and state aid eligibility. Following the approval of Barrington’s Stage I application, the Barrington School Building Committee is working with its Owner’s Project Manager (OPM), Downes Construction, to meet an upcoming Stage II submission deadline. During Stage II, the Barrington School Building Committee and Downes will work with an architectural and engineering team (also referred to as an “A/E firm” or “design team”) to develop solutions to the facility issues identified in Stage I and to provide reliable cost estimates for those solutions.
